Estela Alfaro immigrated to the US at the age of fifteen from Reynosa, Mexico. She has taught in Minneapolis Public Schools in a Dual Immersion program. She earned a Master's Degree in Curriculum Instruction and licenses in Elementary Education, Bilingual, Bicultural and English as a Second Language. What she likes about ISLA is the dedication and effort that the principal, teachers, staff, and parents make to create welcoming environment, full of learning for the students and the teachers. It is truly a place of Spanish Immersion and cultural exchange. She loves to travel around the world and learn about historical places whenever she can. There have been a few times when she was successful in combining these two goals. Estela really enjoyed her trips to Washington DC, Williamsburg, and the ruins of Tulum and Chichen Itza. These experiences increased her understanding of American History and Mayan culture.
