RE:  Pickup and Dropoff

Queridas familias,

We missed the mark yesterday in terms of pickup, and I am very sorry for any inconvenience that it caused you.  Similar to many other districts right now, we are having problems with transportation, pickup, and traffic.  We have revised our plans accordingly and will be able to implement them fully on Monday.  Today will not be perfect, but it will be better.

While yesterday's pickup yesterday was not ideal, I would like to apologize for the long wait and point out that drop off is actually working quite well. Today, our last car in line dropped off at 9:23, just 3 minutes after the start of the day.  5 out of 7 of our buses are arriving on time, and we are working with the company on these issues.

Pickup Plan as of Monday, September 13:

  1. Please do not park and cross 78th Street on foot.
  2. Regardless of their transportation status, we will be giving each student a plastic sheet with a number today.  These will go out in their red folders in your child’s backpack. .
  3. Each student has a unique number which we ask that you put on your passenger side dashboard for pickup starting Monday.
  4. If your child normally rides the bus, save the number for pick up days as they occur. (Be sure to communicate all changes with the front office).
  5. As your car approaches the entrance, a staff member will identify the number on your dashboard and communicate with staff  waiting with groups of children just inside the building.
  6. If you have more than one ISLA student, please only display the number for your oldest child.   We will call that number and the student will exit with their siblings.   If for any reason your oldest child is ill or absent, please display the number of your next oldest child.
  7. Please do not exit your car as you wait for your child(ren) at the designated area in front of the building.
  8. The car line should form heading in the West direction along 78th street before the entrance. (Do not try to turn left into the lot from 78th street)
  9. It is important to let the buses enter the property first.  If a bus arrives late, we will let the bus through the line.
  10. While dropping off or picking up children, cars stay in the left lane (south) while buses stay in the right lane (north)
  11. Pre-K parking:  We have managed to get a few more parking spaces from the construction company for our staff, and have reserved parking spaces in the lot for Pre-K dropoff and pickup only.  Families with Pre-k students are the only families allowed to get out of their vehicles during drop off or pickup (unless you have a pre-arranged meeting).

Atentamente,

Jeremy

PTO Behind the Scenes Updates

ISLA Families Support

This year the ISLA PTO donated $6800 to cover the student fees for the red folders, agendas, and classroom parties (fiesta). All grades, all classrooms, and all students were covered! No payments needed from families. We wish all families and students a great school year!

ISLA Staff Support

Last week the PTO delivered a bunch of healthy snacks and drinks to ISLA staff to welcome them back and keep them energized through Meet the Teacher and the start of school! We appreciate all their hard work to get the new building ready to welcome ISLA families! We wish all staff a great school year!

ISLA Community Building

Lots of friendly faces came to the annual Yahoo/Boohoo events this year! Thank you to the Caribou Coffee at 5125 Edina Industrial Blvd for donating the coffee and bagels and BI Worldwide for sharing their parking lot (due to the ISLA construction). We loved seeing all those that could make it! Let us know if you'd like another time to connect soon!
