Daniel is 22 years old and lives in Pasto (Colombia) with his mother, stepfather, two siblings, grandmother, a niece and two pets. He says that he loves to be there because “all my family and friends live near Me”. He is a reserved, but open-minded person, who is cheerful. Enjoys good conversations with other people, and jokes around. In his free time he likes dancing, movies, playing video games and really loves listening to music. He speaks a little bit of French and Portuguese, but his goal is to learn as many languages as possible. While here he would like to show a traditional dance or performance about Colombian culture and teach traditional songs of Pasto. Besides these activities he would introduce traditional games or try to show a little form of carnival “which would be amazing because people here are very creative and it would be interesting to show a little form of it.”
FUN FACTS about Daniel
Now that we have 9 (!!!) fabulous LA's coming next week already...we need a few Aunt/Uncle families to support the host families and help these young teachers. This is also a great way to get to know them. Your job would be helping with rides if/when needed or include the LA’s in any fun activities that you do with your kids. (biking, visiting places, ice skating, sledding, movies, etc.) Please consider volunteering. Feel free to reach out with any questions via email: islalaprogram@gmail.com
Many of you were asking where Sra. Rodriguez went as she was not included in the teaching assignments. She will be back this fall working in Special Education. Postcards with teacher assignments will be going out next Wednesday. Bus schedules will be sent out the week of August 22nd.
We are looking forward to seeing you all for the Meet the Teacher Open House on August 31st, from 4:30 to 6:00. This is an open house format, so please feel free to come and go anytime during that time frame, and bring any school supplies to lighten your load on the first day of school.
Starting with the 2022-2023 school year, ISLA will have new hours. ISLA's new bell times will be 9:00 am - 3:50 pm. Students may be dropped at ISLA from 8:45-8:55 am. Students should be in their classrooms ready to learn by 9:00 am. Students not dropped off by 8:55 am will need to go to the office.
We are still accepting applications for Aventuras, ISLA's school age before/after school program. The ISLA board is looking for volunteers to serve on the following committees. If you are interested in serving, contact Emily in the office.
The purpose of the Facility Committee is to support the school administrator in managing all ISLA facility-related issues. This includes working with ISLA’s landlord to make sure we have adequate spaces and services for all of our needs. It also includes researching and recommending to the Board an appropriate space for ISLA’s future needs.
The Strategic Planning Committee is responsible for formal development of ISLA’s strategic and long-range plans and goals that are consistent with ISLA’s mission. In subsequent years when plans are in effect, the Strategic Planning Committee reviews and assesses ISLA’s progress towards the stated plans and goals.
The fundraising committee is in need of more committee members. Donate your time to this fabulous committee to help support ISLA.
If you are out and about and would like to donate to the ISLA El Nido pre-k rooms here is a list of items that they are looking for: Contact Gianna Castro at gcastro@isla.school if interested.
