A huge shout out to our 5th Grade engineering team, the International Space Launch Association (ISLA for short) for participating in this year's regional contest on Friday, March 31st. The competition is sponsored by the Minnesota State Engineering Center of Excellence. This year's theme was Into Orbit - Transforming Space Technology. The team challenge was to create a machine with multiple steps to complete a simple task using recycled materials and the design process. The team was scored on a Team Journal, Presentation, and Machine Design and Operation.
The ISLA team will be advancing to the championship and will compete again in Anoka, Minnesota on April 21. Way to go team!
Student names: Emma Perrin, Myles Ally, and Katelyn Owen

The Earth Day Cleanup has become the largest community service project in Minneapolis over the last 29 years. Since 2008, more than 23,000 people have removed more than 165,000 pounds of garbage.
It’s free to participate, no registration needed, just choose a site from our list and show up. Find a detailed list of clean-up sites and more information at minneapolisearthday.com, or view the flyer linked below- with a map of locations:
You can also get into the spirit by participating in the annual Earth Day 5K Bee Run/Walk at Boom Island Park! The event features a family- and dog-friendly fun run/walk (bee costumes encouraged!), river cleanup and Earth Day festivities.
