The MN Dept of Health has recently confirmed a case of measles in MN. This person is from Dakota County and had recently traveled internationally. Most cases of measles in MN are linked to international travel.
Measles can spread quickly in a school setting and can cause serious illness. Unvaccinated students/staff and those with certain health conditions are at higher risk for severe disease.
If your student is not vaccinated against MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), it is recommended that they receive this vaccine as soon as possible. The vaccine is very safe and effective at preventing measles disease. Please make sure the School Nurse has your student's up-to-date immunization record showing dates for all required MMR vaccines, or that you have a legal exemption on file at school. Paperwork for signing a legal exemption can be obtained from the School Nurse (tnelson@isla.school).
Anyone who is unvaccinated and exposed to the measles disease, may be required to stay at home for up to 21 days each time they have been near someone who has measles.
Measles is a very contagious disease caused by a virus. Measles is spread through the air when someone who is sick coughs or breathes, and the droplets become airborne.
Symptoms of measles include:
Anyone who has these symptoms should stay at home and contact their medical provider for further instructions. If your student has suspected or confirmed measles, please inform the School Nurse (tnelson@isla.school) as soon as possible.
Below you'll find the links to upload candid photos for the yearbook! If you have any fun pictures from field trips, sporting events, class parties, or other ISLA activities, we'd love to see them! As we continue to work on improving the PTO Website to be the go-to source for info, we will be trying to condense some of the info included in Noticias. Here’s to progress– And make sure you keep tabs on the website for key info!!
Earlier this year, the students at ISLA voted on what they would like their new mascot to be. They ultimately chose The Tortugas!! Now we’d like to introduce Torti!!! Keep an eye out for our little tortuga to be making more appearances.
On Valentine’s Day, you all helped provide delicious treats for our staff & teachers! Huge shout out to ISLA Parent Nancy Kenevan for coordinating set-up and to all of our parent volunteers for providing everything to show our teachers just how much we love & appreciate them!!
Hang out and let the kids play together while you grab dinner. The best part is that a portion of our restaurant purchases will be coming back to the ISLA PTO!!! So far this year, we have raised $2,739!!! Our next planned date is listed below. Please visit the PTO Website for the full schedule!

It is ISLA PTO’s BIGGEST fundraiser and gathering each Spring where we come together as a community to mingle. We celebrate, dance, fundraise, eat & drink. (There may even be a few surprises up our sleeve this year!)
While doing that, we fundraise to provide 100% of the costs of the Language Ambassador Program! Each year, ISLA PTO brings native Spanish-speakers to our school as teaching assistants to our kids. The LAs are an invaluable part of our school and Fiesta de la Primavera is the time that we are able to provide support for this amazing program!! To do that, the PTO gathers donations from both local businesses and within our community through Great Gatherings, gift baskets, gift certificates and countless other types of items to auction off!
Our LA’s will be hosting their own Great Gatherings for the kids with special movie nights for each grade. Dinner, snacks & fun will be had by all!!! They will all run from 6:30–9pm (movies start at 7pm) in the ISLA Flex Room.
