It's that time of year to request transportation for your child for next fall. To guarantee a bus stop at the beginning of the school year, you must submit your request by June 7th. Click here to request busing.
ISLA's annual board of directors election will be held via an online voting platform, Election Buddy, in mid-May, with results announced at the May 21, 2024 board meeting. All ISLA staff members and parents/guardians of ISLA students are eligible to vote for school board members.
Eligible voters should receive a unique ballot link by email on Friday, May 17, 2024 and will be permitted to cast their vote using that link anytime thereafter until 5:00pm on Monday, May 20, 2024. If you do NOT currently have an email address on file with the school, please contact Emily Smith at esmith@isla.school to provide a current email address to receive your online ballot. If you do not have access to email or a device for online voting, you will be able to vote in person at the school office during school hours on Friday May 17, 2024 and Monday May 20, 2024.
Biographies of the board candidates and a sample ballot can be found on the ISLA website: https://www.isla.school/board/board-candidates
As you all know, ISLA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit Minnesota State Charter School, which means school fundraising is an essential aspect of our budget. You all showed up big time this year to support the school's biggest family fundraiser, Obstajog! Throughout the year we also received amazing support for our Giving Tree (which can be seen in the front entryway), from employer matching gifts, and from our most recent Square1 Art fundraiser. ISLA PTO also lent a hand this past winter to support additional fundraising for our new school social worker staff!
The bottom line is we couldn't have gotten here without your support - so THANK YOU! Please mark your calendars for Sunday, June 2nd from 2pm-5pm, and join us on the ISLA playground and covered parking area. We will have food trucks, music, face painting, bounce houses, dunk tank, a lemonade stand, and more! All are welcome.
We need support with some of the stations at the End of Year Celebration. Please sign up for a shift if you are able! And as always - we are looking for some brave souls to be dunked in the dunk tank! Feel free to sign up a friend!
Thank you to ChiroCenter Chiropractic for their sponsorship of the bounce house, and our very own ISLA Governance Committee for their sponsorship of the dunk tank!
If your student has medication or supplies in the Health Office, these will be sent home with them on the last day of school. If your student will not be in attendance on the last day, or you would like to make alternate plans for picking up your student's medications, please send an email to Nurse Tanya (tnelson@isla.school).
Please keep in mind that we need updated orders & current medication for the start of every school year. If your student takes medication or has an Emergency Health plan for asthma, seizures, allergies, diabetes or other health conditions; we will need new physician orders at the start of school in the fall. Summer months are a great time to see healthcare providers, get updated orders and catch up on any missing immunizations.
Immunization Reminder: All students must show proof of receiving the required immunizations before enrolling in MN public or charter schools; or submit medical or non-medical exemption paperwork. By the start of Kindergarten, all students should have received 5 DTaP, 4 Polio, 3 Hepatitis B, 2 MMR and 2 Varicella doses. If you have questions about your student’s immunization status, please contact Nurse Tanya (tnelson@isla.school).
After 10 years of dedicated service, including leading ISLA through the COVID-19 pandemic, we are sad to announce that this is Nurse Tanya's final year at ISLA. She has been a trusted support for so many students' health needs and brings a sense of dedication, organization, and care that is unmatched. Please join us in celebrating Nurse Tanya by saying good-bye or sharing a thank you card. We are exploring options for nursing services, but we know that Tanya's shoes will be huge ones to fill.

We are on the hunt for a parent with some videography experience/interest to help coordinate the update of the ISLA school video after Molly OFFICIALLY joins the team. The existing video also features the previous building, so it would be great to highlight our new location, as well! If interested, please email Jenner Moretto, the PTO Chair at ptochair@isla.school.
We have 5 confirmed Language Ambassadors for the 2024-2025 school year and are wanting at least 3 more - that means 32 individual families need to be involved! We're excited to have a new way to be involved called "Ride Assistance". If you can't sign up for the time commitment to be a Host or Tio family, consider helping everyone a little bit by being one of the first people for them to call for a ride.
All questions can be asked to MK at islaLAprogram@gmail.com or by texting 612-867-9412. If you're interested, fill out this Google Form!

HUGE shoutout to ISLA Parent Bob Sparkins for coordinating an amazing day at the ballpark with over 270 ISLA friends! Our school had a special call out on the big screen during the game… 5 of our students ran in the mascot race after the 4th inning and more than a few families made some big screen appearances, too!! Here’s a quick peek at some of the fun, but you can find more Photos in the Facebook album! Please feel free to add yours if you’ve got them!
And don’t forget, there is still time to join up with some friends and serve concessions at a Twins game!! Each game that our group brings 10 volunteers, the PTO receives at least $1000!
