The postcards with teacher assignments went out in today's mail. Your child can look forward to receiving them over the weekend. Teacher assignment phone calls will not be taken until next week.
The August 20th ISLA board of directors meeting has been cancelled. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 17th at 6:30 pm.
The excitement of the start of a new school year has arrived… Anxiously awaiting that beloved postcard to tell the kids which class they will be in!! Then the polls that follow on our ISLA Facebook groups/grade level groups for other parents to chime in & share who sent their postcard!!
Not in the grade level groups? Just search “ISLA Class of 20XX” on Facebook using their high school graduation year. For example, the incoming kinder group this Fall will be ISLA Class of 2037!
If that’s not exciting enough, we have had our first couple of LA's arrive in Minnesota this past week… With FIVE more arriving today (Thursday 8/15)!! Huge shoutout to all of our absolutely wonderful Host & Tio Families, the LA Team + everyone behind the scenes at ISLA that have stepped up to make this such a great start to the year for our LAs… And thus, for our kids!!!! That includes our stellar PTO Treasurer, Michael Schulte & Derek Carwood who are hosting Cris (from Colombia) this Fall!! We are SO excited to show our Language Ambassadors some Minnesota Nice, love, kindness & support as they navigate this transition into a new country, a new school & meeting new families.
If you see the LAs around, PLEASE don’t be afraid to go up & say hello– They are here to share language, culture, knowledge, friendship, support… FUN– We are a Tio Family this year & are headed to the airport this afternoon to greet more LAs arriving from Chile! The kids insisted on making fun signs and were SO anxious to go to sleep last night so we could “get to the airport faster tomorrow.” Haha! We have only had a small peek into the world of hosting an LA, but if you’re looking for some info, this quick infographic helps show how the LA Team will work with you IF you decide you’d like to participate in hosting, Tio’ing or maybe providing support with rides or something different? Check out the infographic above and feel free to email any questions to islaLAprogram@gmail.com As of now, we have a full list of Host & Tio Families for the ‘24/’25 school year, but please fill out the form & we will contact you to see how you may be able to participate this year if that’s what you’re looking for, or we can get you on the waitlist for hosting next year!
Here’s to ‘24-’25, ISLA!!
