Fundraising Committee Corner

Obstajog has arrived! Obstajog is ISLA School’s biggest student-led fundraiser where we encourage the kids to plan their strategy, be creative, and practice confidence and bravery by asking friends, family, and neighbors to support them and their school. Last year we raised over $40,000!

Students will be bringing home their Donation Envelope this Friday, September 20th so they can get started fundraising for our amazing school! We’ve also sent home a flyer with more information for families, an optional student script, and a list of this year’s incredible incentives for classes, individual students, and teachers! Classrooms can win a uniform free day and a pizza party, students can earn a gift card, and teachers can gain credit to this fall’s Scholastic Book Fair!

Families will have three weeks to support and put their student’s fundraising plan into action, culminating with a very exciting obstacle course celebration in the ISLA gymnasium on Friday, October 11th. Please reach out to the fundraising committee at fundraising@isla.school with any questions, and check out this fun Obstajog teaser video made by our very own Señor Edgar for a sneak peek into what our celebration day will look like!

Maud Hart Lovelace Reading Award

Starting this week students from 3rd-5th grade will have access to a new set of nominee books chosen by the Maud Hart Selection Committee. Thanks to the PTO for providing funds to purchase all the books!

The Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award is a children's read-and-vote book award. Its purpose is to encourage recreational reading among school-age children. Nominated titles are works of fiction of recognized quality selected by independent regional reading groups.

Students in grades 3-5 who have read or listened to at least three titles from the Division I nominee list are eligible to vote for the Maud Hart Lovelace Award. Those who read the ten books by the end of the school year, will earn a certificate and the privilege to forever be on the Wall of Fame in their class!

Sr. Izquierdo's class will be in charge of lending the books. There will be student librarians and guardians taking care of them. The books from last year's challenge are also available in the ISLA library. Check out this presentation if you want to know more.
