Over this past weekend ISLA received just over $5,000 in donations through GiveButter - which means that we are already HALFWAY to taking full advantage of our generous $10,000 match!

Don’t forget that just one donation per student/family counts towards class and teacher incentives!

  • 80% class participation gets students a non-uniform day
  • 90% class participation gets the class a pizza party AND the teacher will get a $100 Scholastic Book Fair credit to purchase books for their classroom!

Students can collect donations in their Obstajog Donation Envelope which should be returned to school on Friday, October 11th.

Please plan to join us at Obstajog on Friday, October 11th. We are in need of volunteers to support students who will be running the course - both during the school day at our after school celebration from 4-7pm! We hope you all can join us to celebrate all our student’s efforts between 4-7pm in the school gym!

A huge thank you to our Obstajog Sponsors: Grandview Tire & Auto and TrailHead Planners. Please consider frequenting these businesses or reaching out to thank them for supporting ISLA.

HAPPY OCTOBER!!

It was fun to see so many families at Panera in Edina last week. We will send out an update on that total there as soon as we receive it. Thank you all so much for the support!! Our next restaurant night will be with FamFare on 10/22. My favorite homemade meal business, run by two MN moms! Stay tuned for more details.

Right now, the PTO Board is so excited to be supporting the ISLA School Board’s Fundraising Committee and the Obstajog on October 11th, 2024!! MARK YOUR CALENDARS, and don’t forget to share your kid’s ideas on ISLA Families to see what the rest of the community is up to. My 3rd grader’s newest idea is asking for donations based on the number of books she reads between now and 10/11 as well as a make-up or face-painting stand! Can’t wait to hear all the cool things our kids come up with!!

FALL HAS ARRIVED!

Come enjoy the changing colors in the trees from atop Hyland Hills chair lifts next weekend!! This is a ticketed event where slots are selling quickly so head to bit.ly/FallColorsChairLifts2024 and grab yours ASAP!!

Once you get to the top of the hill, hang out to enjoy the view with some live music, food, beverages and a bonfire!! As the cherry on top of this fun day, some of our Language Ambassadors will be there and you’ll have the opportunity to mingle and learn more about them or share some about you & your family!! Most LAs will be arriving between 1:30 and 2:00, but there is no real time limit to how long you can enjoy the view from the top of the hill!!

DDLM is one month away!

Come celebrate The Day of the Dead with the ISLA community. This event is FREE to attend for all families where you can enjoy music, dancing, crafts & activities along with lunch for sale, if interested! More details to come.

PENNY WARS RESULTS!

To say we are BLOWN away would be the biggest understatement… WOW ISLA!! Thank you so much!!! It was exciting to see our students SO hyped up & invested in the fun. As you may have heard, a big congratulations is due to Sr. Izquierdo’s 4th grade class for winning the top spot, but a new development this week is that (as I’ve often mentioned to you, we on the PTO Board are all human… And I made a mistake when tracking points, and we ALSO owe a huge congratulations to Profe Rachel’s 5th grade classroom who topped Izquierdo's classroom by less than $20!! I truly apologize for my mistake here!! The PTO Board has connected with Profe Rachel to coordinate their ice cream party so they get their time, too!!

Lastly, a HUGE accomplishment for the whole school was earning 100% participation (ie. 1 penny per person) and enjoying a non-uniform day last Friday 9/27!! Absolutely amazing to see this energy unfold. You can also watch the full announcement video at https://bit.ly/ISLApto_PennyWars_Results It was the PERFECT opportunity to get them amped up & ready for all the fun ahead with Obstajog coming up on 10/11!!

Have a knack for marketing, maybe you enjoy writing or just want to be part of supporting our amazing school??

The PTO Board is looking for an interested party (or multiple parties to co-chair) to shadow the Secretary & Communications position this school year and to take over moving into the ‘25-’26 school year.

General responsibilities & time commitment is one 60-90 minute meeting per month, along with writing the PTO Corner update for the school’s weekly Noticias email. Myself along with the rest of the board can help provide context and templates if desired, but we’re also happy to see positions flex based on an individual’s skills, bandwidth & needs!! Happy to see what you might have to offer as our school continues to grow & expand in all sorts of ways!! Please reach out to Caitlin Edstrom at ptosecretary@isla.school with questions!!
